Leech Lake Fishing Report 6-25-03

Water Temperatures on Leech are now into the low 70’s and summer is here. With the warming water temperatures muskie fishing is approaching it’s summer peak. There are more fish chasing baits this week and some are opening their mouths. Many fish at this time are using weeds. Most of the fish are falling for soft plastics or jerkbaits. Evenings seem to be the best time to get fish to bite.

Evenings are also producing the majority of the walleyes. While some anglers struggle to catch fish in the day, it seems they are contacting fish much easier under low light conditions. Both live bait rigging with leeches and night crawlers and trolling shad raps have been productive techniques for catching walleyes. Look to find fish on main lake rock piles and off of Sand Point.

Panfish can continue to be caught in weeds with the sunnies shallow and the crappies and perch a little deeper. Continue to look for bass in emergent vegetation on Leech Lake and look to find them on weed edges in smaller lakes. We are into that time of year where anything goes for bass. You might catch them on anything from Jigs to crankbaits, and top water in the morning and evening has been excellent.

Good Luck!!
